The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

The book is that other story. Mr.Twain didn't know everything about me. I didn't leave St Petersburg. I wasn't happy in Mrs Doughlas' house. That's true. But that wasn't the reason for my journey. The reason was this - my father came back to St Peterburg! (p.13)
Amazon | Macmillan Readers Adventures of Huckleberry Finn The ... The book is a sequel of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". As you know, it's an one of the famous American novels written by Mark Twain. It's expanded in the south America where there is still a problem of racial discrimination.
The main characers are Tom and Jim. Tom is white poor person, and decides to go on adventure because he can't bear his father who is bad drinker and violent. Jim is black person and  decides to run away from his town because he wanted to be a free man. They ride on the same raft, and go down Mississipi river to reach free state. At that time, there is some law about black slaves, so Tom are troubled what he should do and whether it's okay to continue the adventure.
I learned about the part of the story last year, so I chose this because I want to remember them. I don't know the real ending since I've never read the whole stroy, but I could taste the feeling through this book. It's used simple English, so it's easier to read this book than original novel. If you have an interest about American old novel, I recommend you to read it once.

Too old to rock and roll

Something was different. Dad's clothes were new and he was wearing jeans. His father was wearing jeans! And he was smiling. His father was Stephen Barber again. He was the bright and happy man who married Mum.(p.11)
Too Old to Rock and Roll and Other Stories: 700 Headwords : Jan ... This book has three short stories. There are no similarities among those stories, so you can enjoy many kind of stories.
The first story is about one family. Main characters are young son named Greg and his father. Several years ago, they lost their mother because of the car traffic accident. His father used to be a bright and happy man, but he changed to be sad and cold. Greg hopes he gets better again. One more character, named Valerie is worry about the parent and child and often come their house and help some houseworks. She was a old friend with Greg's father, and same age to him. They are very close and the father began to change little by little. Greg think they get married in some years, but the last of the story was unexpected for readers.
I expected more better ending, so I coudn't swallow it and the title of this story. I've not experienced the losing my parents yet. Greg hopes his father's happiness, and interacted with him like a friend. So it's interesting and fresh for me. If you have an interest about this book, please check it.

Stories from the five towns

The two men wanted to know very much, but did they ask the question? Oh, no! Neither man wanted to be the first to speak. And so they sat in silence. (p.27)
Stories from the Five Towns』|感想・レビュー - 読書メーター This book has four short stories which expands in five towns.  It includes laugh, irony, and being moved. In each of stories, nothing in particuar happen. It is written about people who have some troubles in daily life.  The stories can happen to everyone, so we'll feel with thier feelings.
I like forth story about old and silent brothers in the same house. Surprisingly, they haven't talked eachpther for ten years though they live in the same house. The reason is quarrel between them because they wanted to get married to same business woman. They are so stranged, and decided to not talk each other. The brothers is famous in the town they live in, so people in the town always watch over them. However, the stories began to move actively from when their old sister died.  In her will, she wrote something that is surprising.
If you want to know the continuation of the story, I recommernd you to read it. You'll enjoy these short stories.

The last one makes us be moved. Especially I like the first one. The main characters are young man and woman who lived in New York.
