英語教育講義⑨: Lecture1

Today we learned about CLT. Through practicing English conversation, we can get used to speak English, and have a confidence. We tried to practice English along with the materials that Ravin teacher prepared in the class. I've also done it in intensive English class. I think it is good way to practice English, but it's also important to make a chance to speak with foreigners and encounter various situation by ourselves. 

BR⑦ A Chrostmas Carol

 The clanking noise grew louder and louder. Then the noise came straghit through the door into Scroogr's room. Sudenly, Scrooge saw Jacob Marley. He saw the face he had seen on the door knocker and the fire. He saw a white cloth tord round Marley's face and chin. He could see sraight through Marley! Was this a ghost? (p.13)

 Continuing with the last book review, I'm going to introduce you Charles Dikens's ghost story. The title is "A Chrostmas Carol". This is the most famous novel and it made his name spread to many people.  

The main character is old man named Scrooge. He leaded poor life alone, and didn't have warm heart. So people didn't try to get close to him. He hated Christmas. He couldn't understand why people celebrated the holiday in spite of their poverty. At the time of development industory in this story, there are big gap between rich people and poor people. When he went back home at Christmasday, he saw three gosts in his house and watched his past, present, and future from them. What did he learn from them? How did he change himself after that? You can also learn a lot from this novel.

Today we took a test, and we think about learning English in foreign countries. I was glad to hear Yoshii teacher's experience in America. Graph of U was so interesting for me. Everyone have experienced culture shock and made progress their language skills and personality. I remembered the days in America and my feeling to learning English. 

BR⑥ The Signalman and The Ghost at the Trial

 I shouted down to him. The signalman heard my voice but he did not look up at me. He turned round and he looked towards the tunnel. I was surprised. I was above him, at the top of the cutting. Why was the signalman looking towards the tunnel?(p.10)

This book has two short stories about ghost. I'm going to introduce " The Signalman". The  main character are two man. The signalman and visitor at signal-box. The man shouted down to signalman, but he didn't react and just saw the tunnel. When the man get close to signalman, he didn't see him at all and looked scary. According to him, when he saw some one, fatal accident always happen near the tunnel. Actually, one person dead one year ago after he saw someone near the tunnel. Moreover, he saw human figures a lot recently. Can you imagine what's happen next?

This book was written by Charles Dickens. He was raised up in not rich house, and he couldn't get enough education in his childhood. But he read many books by himself, and he worked as writer of news paper and books. Especially, his ghost story was so popular among the people at that time. If you want to enjoy his works easily, I recommend you this book.

 I listened twelve student's presentation about our own study method. They also make efforts to find the best study method. It was impressive that they analyzed their selves and found their favorite things and weak points. I feel the students in English language and literature have a strong motivation in the bottom of their heart. I want to keep my English habits everyday, too.

 In the presentation about my way of studying English, it was impressive for me. Everyone try a lot of ways, face to ourselves, and find study method that are fit for us. I was so surprised their efforts, so I want to do like them. The most impressive presenter was Mako. She practiced her English routine, and took part in many kinds of English event. I come to listen to English news using podcast after her presentation. I can listen it everywhere, so it's so convenient tool. I want to continue it. 

BR⑤ The long tunnel

 They waited quietly in the darkness. Suddenly a man hurried up the lane. He knocked at the window of the cottage. 'Everything is OK. Bill has telephoned from London. He's put sleeping pills in guard's coffee.' (p.20）

This book is about solution of a crime. The main character are three university student named Paul, Shelia, and Charles. In their summer vacation, they was going to stay cottage of Paul's uncle for two weeks. They was supposed to meet at the station near the cottage and Paul lead others to the place. However, at that day, Paul didn't appear there. Shelia and Charles visited the cottage with the help of map, and in the cottage there are one stranger. They got sent away by him though it must be cottage of Paul's uncle. When they hide behind grass, they come to listen to the plan of stealing money. They also heard Paul was tied up and trapped in his room. They save him and try to punish the bad guys. 

I think they are so brave and had a thrilling experience. It is good the story expand speedy, and it has happy end. When you want to read book easily, I recommend this book.
